Katherine Downs is an award-winning Director/Producer specialising in documentary lifestyle and factual television formats.
She has spent a good chunk of her 2o plus year career as a Director for New Zealand’s major networks, including top-rated lifestyle shows for TVNZ – Maggie’s Garden Show, NZ Living, Open Home and the internationally successful Taste NZ with Peta Mathias. Her work also includes children’s television, TVCs, corporate videos and feature documentaries including The Two of Us – New Zealand’s highest rating documentary for 1997.
Moving to Singapore gave Katherine the opportunity to join The Moving Visuals Co. and diversify her talents, where she worked on Vintage Hunter – filming in Mumbai and New Zealand (nominated for Best Lifestyle series at the 2015 Banff Rockie Awards), Cooking For the Crown, and Big Food. The shows have aired on various worldwide networks including Discovery Asia and Fox Australia. Big Food was also awarded Best Infotainment Programme at the Asian Rainbow TV Awards in 2016.
Her role is now focussed on creative development. Katherine’s successful formats include the eco-travel series Fill My Tank (nominated for Best Social Awareness Programme at the 2013 Asia TV Awards and winner of Best Infotainment Programme at the 2015 Asia Rainbow TV Awards), and Mission Restorable. Katherine most recently completed Creative Living, an 8-part home renovation series for New Zealand’s TV3.
Katherine is an alumnus of the prestigious Auckland University Post-graduate Broadcast Communications Degree – a course offered to just 6 students per year. She brings a wealth of experience in all parts of development and post-production for broadcast television – from developing concepts, to researching and scripting, meeting with talent, briefing crews and ensuring that the vision of the executive producer and client is realised.
