Healers: Journey into Ayurveda Now Available on DVD

By tmvcadm | Announcements, General, DVDs, History | 0 comment | 2 November, 2009 | 0

Healers: Journey Into Ayurveda is now available on DVD and on sale in the USA from Amazon here. For PAL orders, please contact us directly.

Filmed on Super 16 mm film on location in Kerala, India and New York, this has been one of our most travelled shows since we made it circa 2002. It first aired on Discovery Asia and Latin America and has aired on PBS, among several other channels. The story follows Dr Bhaswati Bhattacharya as she takes us through an exploration of Ayurveda from both an Eastern and Western perspective.  It’s one of our more traditional documentary offerings, and timeless as well.

It was a fascinating experience to see cures that work outside of the mainstream. It is the oldest medical system in the world, and yet Ayurveda remains one of the least explored paths even today.  Little is understood about it outside of India. The film does not have all the answers, but it does try to give audiences a rare look into this world of healing.

The project was conceived by Galen Yeo; Directed by Christine Lim and Galen Yeo, with cinematography by Robert Chappell and Rajakumar Arevas. Edited by Louis Gumapas. Narration by Rob Middleton (thanks Rob!) Produced by the uber Khim Loh.  Consultant: Dr KS Nandalal.  Thanks to everyone involved, and EDB Singapore for making this possible.  Worldwide TV rights are still available.

Remembering Philip Jones – Man of TV

By tmvcadm | Announcements, Bios | 0 comment | 2 September, 2009 | 0

It’s unusual for us to post our second obituary here in the short time we’ve started this blog, but life is about remembering those who made a difference.

On 5 July 2009, Philip Jones passed away at the age of 65 from a heart attack.

Who exactly was Mr Jones? He was a friend, an advisor, a confidante, and a fascinating man that we (Khim Loh and Galen Yeo) met earlier in the formative years of The Moving Visuals Co.  Khim had just been invited to the Banff TV Festival in Canada to be a member of an international jury – a formative task that included a long week of judging all kinds of television shows spanning from documentaries to children’s shows. Good days. There, she met Philip Jones who became for a period, our mentor in navigating the international world of television.

Philip was a first class gentleman who had worked for the BBC, Yorkshire TV, ITC Entertainment and Carlton Television.  He knew the ropes of the TV biz, and held court with his scotch at the Carlton Hotel while attending his old haunt: the Mip festival in Cannes.  Briefly, as an independent, Philip consulted The Moving Visuals Co. on our board of directors. Philip was never one to mince words and had a wicked and wry sense of humour.  We had some jolly times and learned a lot.  A nice tribute on Philip can be read here in the Times. Our condolences go out to Philip’s wife Sue and their children. Life was never dull with Philip. Enjoy watching the telly with some whiskey up in heaven Mr Jones.

“Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes and having fun. We believe that this television series is a perfect platform that allows this,” said Ajay Mohan, VP of marketing at HP Asia-Pacific and Japan.

TMVC’s 75 minute documentary LOST IMAGES featuring the Ivan Polunin archive received praise from Singaporeans after its Premiere on Okto on Aug 10 2009.

Mr. Errol Goodenough wrote:
“On Monday night, TV channel Okto telecast a remarkable MDA-sponsored documentary, ‘Lost Images’. Every Singaporean ought to view the production which is splendid. However I know that many missed the opportunity, possibly because of the lack of publicity. I am not sure if there will be a re-telecast on local channels…It remains for me to congratulate the MDA and the agency which produced ‘Lost Images’ for realising and making available such a rare gem.  Thank you.”

Ms. Mary-Ann P. wrote:
“My fiance and I have been dazzled by the Lost Images segment on TV.  I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank you and your company for making these wonderful shows available to us. I wasn’t born in that era,but knowing the history of my country deepens my love for it. And a thunderous applause to Dr Ivan Polunin too, for taking all those valuable footages.  It’s simply amazing…” девочку ебут
